"we returned again"
This is a "found poem", or a poem discovered by highlighting certain words and phrases of a published book. In this case, the page is from Speak, Memory, by Vladimir Nabokov.
The book itself was in poor condition, so pages were removed and salvaged to be renewed as indiviual pieces of art.
The poem is revealed through careful selection, with ink and colored pencil highlighting certain words. Color and shape help distract the viewer from the non-essential words.
The poem reads:
our
quivering against
great patches purple-blue
among
the
bits of pottery,
They were
judged precious
the pattern found
years ago
absolutely broken
now mended
we returned
again
That garden
found
in my memory
The book page is about 5"W x 8"H, on an ecru colored page, hand colored with black ink, and highlighted with blue and purple colored pencil accents.
