"one by one"
This is a "found poem", or a poem discovered by highlighting certain words and phrases of a published book. In this case, the page is from Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes.
The book itself was in poor condition, so pages were removed and salvaged to be renewed as indiviual pieces of art.
The poem is revealed through careful selection, with ink highlighting certain words. Graphite and ink designs help distract the viewer from the non-essential words.
The poem reads:
one by one
we be here
the empress and queens
to show
this favour
fire and brimstone
to please you
and she is
so immense a beauty
with such fury and good fortune
yet was
of the best intention
The book page is about 5.5"W x 8.5"H, on an ecru colored page, hand colored with black ink and graphite accents.
